Over the past 7+ years as the co-owner of B&B, I’ve experienced countless highlights—from opening our first office to witnessing our team’s growth & meeting inspiring individuals like Willie. We’ve developed solutions for for-profits & have made significant impacts, such as helping Eva’s Village raise $1,100,000 in just an hour. 🎉 It’s been a rollercoaster ride, filled with challenges & triumphs, but the power of storytelling has always been at the heart of our journey.

But one of my most memorable moments at B&B occurred just last week, for reasons that might surprise you.

🎥 Our First Foray into Non-Profit Video Production

Back in 2017, B&B ventured into non-profit videography with our first major project for Eva’s Village. Like any new business, we initially struggled to get our name out there & secure our first clients. To build our portfolio, we took on a few free gigs, one of which involved telling the story of a remarkable individual overcoming a 17-year heroin addiction. We shot & edited his interview, capturing B-roll footage at his fundraising event & debuting a Same Day Edit that captivated the audience. 🎥

This project not only established our reputation but also forged a lasting relationship with Dan, a former ABC executive who was on the board of Eva’s Village. Dan became a champion of our work, advocating for our video production services & connecting us with various organizations.

🏙️ Making a Difference with Video Production in New Jersey

One of our most impactful projects was a PSA raising awareness about violence in a New Jersey city. This video, funded partly by a grant secured through our work, demonstrated the power of storytelling in non-profit video production. It showed grantmakers & community leaders the potential impact on the lives of young people, leading to a grant renewal for a second year. 📝

Our commitment to storytelling was further highlighted when we took on an initiative that involved not just creating content but also engaging with the community on a deeper level.

🎓 Inspiring the Next Generation

Beyond producing videos, we were given the opportunity to teach storytelling & videography to students at the Imani Center in Irvington, New Jersey. Over a few days, we guided high school students & recent graduates through the fundamentals of video production & storytelling, showing them how these skills could be a powerful tool for self-expression & change. 💡

The experience was eye-opening, not just for the students but also for us. Initially, the students were hesitant & disengaged, but as we delved into the elements of storytelling & video production, their interest blossomed. 🌱 By the end of our sessions, they were actively participating, analyzing stories, & even applying what they learned to their own media consumption. It was a transformation that was both inspiring & rewarding.

One student, initially quiet & disengaged, became particularly involved, asking insightful questions & showing a deep interest in the psychological aspects of storytelling. Moments like these underscore the real impact of our work—helping young people find their voice & learn new skills. ✨
